"... whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
We've always had trouble in the United States with our election system because we gerrymander our districts, pour billions of dollars into our campaigns, and use a winner-take-all vote counting procedure that frequently puts someone that barely half the people approve of into office. And since the election of 2000 we have become aware of issues with badly designed ballots, malformed chads, and touch screen machines that mysteriously consume or produce votes on a whim where the contended votes have literally made or broken a candidate in a race.
It's your system, citizen. If you've had enough of this and other bureaucratic nonsense (like this person has) then it is time to do something about it. Let's put our nation back on the road to democracy one town, county, and state at a time. Please contact your federal representatives in the Senate and Congress, governors and state legislators, mayors and city council members and tell them that this system needs an overhaul now. Write letters to the editor, call into to radio talk shows, have a chat with your neighbors over coffee.
